December 13th - Witch, Please
Today is Saint Lucia's Day. This is a very important celebration in Sweden, a day which symbolises light in their long, dark winter. Girls adorn their heads with crowns of candles and adults celebrate with mulled wine and coffee 🕯 https://t.co/H4twiJb1JP
LUSSINATA (Scandinavia): On 13th Dec., both St Lucia and Lussi are celebrated. Lucia is a Christian martyr. Whilst Lussi is a witch-like being who marks the arrival of trolls and evil spirits. To protect your household, you should stay up all night.

It’s St Lucia’s Day so that means saffron buns!
I’ve used an 18th century English recipe that also includes coriander seeds. It’s from my book Fool’s Gold: A History of British Saffron (which would make a great Christmas present BTW 😉). https://t.co/8Vlya3fSD9
Happy feast of St. Lucia of Syracuse, martyr of the Diocletianic Persecution in 304 AD and patron saint of the blind. Incorporated into Norse winter solstice celebrations of light, as she had carried food supplies to the catacombs using a candle wreath on her head https://t.co/eUcdLoEpY6
It's the feast of St. Lucia of Syracuse (283–304).
Martyred during the Great Persecution, later accounts related her execution by eye - gouging.
Patron saint of the blind, authors, glaziers, saddlers and stained glass workers.
But not, presumably, entrée servers.

Around Christmas time in Sweden, one of the biggest celebrations is St. Lucia's Day (or St. Lucy's Day) on December 13th. The celebration comes from stories that were told by Monks who first brought Christianity to Sweden.

Happy St. Lucia day to all our Scandinavian families. At St Frideswide we elect our own St Lucia and they visit each learning base with gifts of gingerbread. Our Lucia made her own crown this year- AMAZING! @Cowley_stjohn @ODSTschools https://t.co/0vv9qvF4y1

It’s St Lucia’s Day. Growing up we had a book with a picture of a girl dressed as St Lucia: candle crown, white dress, and blood red sash (martyrdom). I really wanted to have a go but my mother said “The wax would drip down your face” bang went my Midvinter folk heroine dreams. https://t.co/BqzchQTX04
